What are the reason clothes go up for sale?

Buying a high-end bag, a shoe or a jacket for a common man can be a cherry at the topping because for the general masses they are a luxury of a rarity. Hence clothes on sale can be a yearly god-sent for a magnitude of a crowd. Because they are a time for you to buy the shoe for half the price, boast it off of your friends that you bought it at this and this price when you actually didn’t.

So, before we let our ignorance give credit to something that is benefitting the other side of the store let us look at the real reason why clothes go up for sale. And No! Not every clothes on sale mean they are of inferior quality. Sales really do show the side of our hoi polloi herd mentality. You aren’t likely to see a mall that is deserted during the sale season.  Because the trigger of the herd mentality is best seen during sales.

The main reason why you fuss over not getting your size from your favourite brand has to do with something a lot more ‘businessey’. Notice how the biggest sales occur at the end of financial year. Which means it is time for retailers to liquidate their items. The financial year hence marks the end of the seasons previous season’s high selling point. Sales are hence the good time to clear stock from the last season to make way for the new.

Remember how we talked about how clothes on sale are not always of inferior quality. Some are too! Sales are hence a time where items that have become antiquated through innovation or ranges that have become fragmented. Or they can also be of stocks that have become soiled, seasonal stocks such as fast fashion that has become unfashionable or that have become slow in selling. It can also be overstocked or hotchpotch items.

In addition to the clearance scheme, retailers or stores need to pay their taxes. There is hence a need to liquidate unwanted stock to pay the tax bill. All this is to make sure there is a vital cash flow, to reduce management costs or storage space to have availed of the new merchandise.

‘Clothes on sale’s are also held because retailers need to prepare their financial reports for distribution to shareholders, government and other statutory reporting authorities. As you can see clothes on sale aren’t as generous as the SALES the stores pompously put up.
