When we talk of expensive lingerie how can we escape the Victoria Secret’s ‘fantasy bra’’? Their mind-boggling million dollars bra for the single show? Some serious talent or extravagance! Well, thank goodness it is just for a show! Keeping our reality in-check fantasy bras are just limited to the screen of our electronic devices but our lingerie isn’t. So, how is it that this tiny piece of lace or silk is so expensive? How is it that this ‘sexy clothing’ seen as something frivolous is expensive? Why is lingerie expensive?

Lingerie hence requires skill sets that have a very specific set of design skills combined with an integrated knowledge of how the body works. And that involves a piece of silk or lace able to support, lift, shape, hold of different sizes and shapes.

From the fabric manufacturers to pattern makers they must create something that is both soft and sturdy. Sturdy to carry the weight, hold it in place and soft enough to keep the delicate part of the body in comfort and support. As you see, the most trivial of things made-to- appear includes the most delicate of parts. One that requires someone to transform a few bits of lace, a couple of pieces of wire and some straps into a fully realized undergarment.
